The Wild Goose Bonspiel was held at the Chatham Granite Club from March 4th – 6th, 2022.

The Wild Goose Bonspiel originated in Kingsville and for the last several seasons has been played at the Chatham Granite Club. This event featured 2 full draws (20 teams). An event of this size has not been held since before Covid. The 20 teams in attendance represented 10 different curling clubs. The event was sponsored by Thornbury Craft Cider and Beer, Vernon’s Bar and Grill and featured Kegs beer from Boshkung Brewery. Food was plentiful and featured a grilled steak dinner on Saturday night.

Play started on Friday evening and continued through Sunday afternoon. Post game celebrations continued long into Saturday night. Teams were led onto the ice by a bagpiper for the final on Sunday. The winner of the bonspiel was team Mitchel winning against team Poole. The event was well attended but the organizers missed the American teams that usually make the trip to Canada for this event. In any other typical year before Covid 8 to 10 of the teams in the bonspiel would have been from the USA.

The Goose organizers intend to have 3 full draws for next year.
The event is popular! It has the largest attendance of any bonspiel at the Chatham Granite Club. If your team interested in playing in the 2023 Goose it is never too early to reserve your spot!

Team Mitchell won the event, but everyone in attendance felt like this event was a win after waiting so long for Bonspiels to resume.
